Cardiac Rehabilitation FAQs

Q: When can I start cardiac rehab?
A: Typically two to six weeks after surgery/coronary event or a release from your cardiologist.

Q: Will my insurance cover the cost of cardiac rehab?
A: Most insurance companies will cover certain diagnoses for cardiac rehab. The Saint Joseph staff will help you verify your coverage, or talk to you about other options if your insurance does not cover the cost of the program.

Q: How do I get started?
A: Ask your cardiologist or family physician for a referral to Saint Joseph Cardiac Rehab or call 859.313.4793.

Q: How often will I attend cardiac rehab?
A: Typically, people attend rehab three times a week. Through our maintenance or prevention programs, you can exercise up to five days a week.

Q: How long should I plan on attending rehab?
A: An individual program is set up for everyone who comes to us. But in general, cardiac rehab takes six to 12 weeks. Maintenance and prevention programs are ongoing.

Q: I don't know if I have heart disease, can you help?
A: Visit www.KnowMyHeart.com and take the free, confidential heart disease risk assessment. Once you have completed the assessment, if the online evaluation determines that you may be at risk for heart disease, you will qualify for a free screening and will be contacted by a Saint Joseph nurse.
