CHI Saint Joseph Health Launches Educational Weight Loss Video Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2024) – As many people embark on a healthier lifestyle this new year, CHI Saint Joseph Health has launched an educational video series about weight loss methods. Hosted by Benjamin Neltner, MD, CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care, and David Swedler, DO, Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Saint Joseph East, this series explores medication and surgical weight loss options and provides evidence-based insights on the methods.

“Kentucky is always listed as one of the top five most obese states in the country, so we have to approach obesity seriously as its own standalone problem that we can fix,” said Dr. Swedler. “We hope this series will help promote educated and safe decisions, debunk misconceptions and provide evidence-based options for our community members.”

In the three-part video series, the hosts also share their knowledge to help patients understand which weight loss path might address their individual needs and health concerns, whether medication-based, surgical or a combination.

“There is not a one-fit-all approach to weight loss,” said Dr. Neltner. “There’s diet and exercise that we’ve advocated for generations, weight loss medications and surgery. Over the past couple of years, new medication options and new theories about diet and exercise have been introduced, but it doesn’t have to just be one action. Obesity is a multi-system disease, best treated with a multidisciplinary approach.”

Additionally, CHI Saint Joseph Health – Center for Weight Loss Surgery is offering in-person educational seminars for people interested in bariatric surgery to learn more about the approach. CHI Saint Joseph Health’s expert team of weight loss surgeons and support staff will provide information and answer questions about weight loss methods to help individuals discover the right option for them. There is also a Zoom option available for part of the series for those who are unable to attend in person to give them the opportunity to ask questions and get real time answers from the surgeon. In addition, there is an online seminar available for viewing anytime at the CHI Saint Joseph Health website. To register for an in-person weight-loss seminar, click here.
