Yes, Mamm! Program Offering Free Mammography Screenings to Women in Need
Grant will cover mammography screenings until Oct. 31, 2016

London, Ky. (October 14, 2016) – One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, but with early detection, the five-year survival rate is more than 80 percent. Mammograms are an important tool in early detection, which is why the Saint Joseph London Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, will provide free mammography screenings until Oct. 31, 2016 through the foundation’s Yes, Mamm! program.

Since 2012, the program has provided lifesaving screenings, patient navigation and travel assistance to more than 600 individuals, with 100 percent of funding spent on patient care for women across the Commonwealth. In London, the program was established in 2014 through a grant from the Lexington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Through a grant from the Kentucky Department of Public Health: Breast Cancer Trust Fund, the Yes, Mamm! program will cover co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses for those with insurance to have a mammography screening, and the entire cost for those without insurance until the end of October.

“Don’t let cost prevent you from getting the screening you need to detect breast cancer early,” said Mridula Vinjamuri, MD, KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care. “Saint Joseph London offers digital mammography, which provides higher detection rates than traditional mammograms. We are proud to be part of this initiative this month, which will ensure that women in our community get the screening they need to stay healthy.”

“We strive daily to bring wellness, healing and hope to all, including the underserved,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, division vice president of development, KentuckyOne Health. “This grant allows us to to reach women who may not be able to afford a mammogram, to help get them the care they need and deserve.”

Ask your family physician for a referral to Saint Joseph London for a mammogram, then call 606.330.6060 to schedule your screening. The “no cost to you” option expires after Oct. 31.
