Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Holds Tours of Birthing Center

Mt. Sterling, Ky. (August 17, 2015) – Expectant mothers and future parents inevitably go through times of change and uncertainty as they prepare for the birth of their child. Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, part of KentuckyOne Health, now offers tours of the facility’s birthing center to give future parents an inside look at what it has to offer.

A tour of the birthing center gives expectant parents a glimpse of what it is like to deliver at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. Representatives from the center will guide parents through various areas of the center and answer any questions mothers may have.

Parents can visit the post-partum rooms inside of the birthing center. These rooms are specifically designed to allow new moms and families bond with the newborn in a private and spacious setting. Board certified lactation counselors are available to help educate and support new mothers and families on breastfeeding.

On the tour, mothers can ask questions about the recommended Kangaroo Care after birth. Kangaroo Care is a form of skin-to-skin contact with parent and baby. The infant, wearing only a diaper, is held in an upright position against the parent’s bare chest for anywhere from 20 minutes to up to four hours a day.

It’s important for the mother to rest after birth. The Level I Newborn Nursery is staffed with skilled and caring nurses and pediatricians to take care of the baby while mom relaxes. Safety is ensured with the Hugs® Security System, a state-of-the-art security system where an electronic tag is attached to one foot, allowing the infant to be monitored 24/7.

The birthing center at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling provides a number of services and amenities including:
    •    Advanced fetal heart monitoring
    •    Continuous epidural availability
    •    Personal service dining
    •    Private and spacious “home-like” suites with sleeper sofas
    •    Separate Cesarean room with optional VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section)
    •    State-of-the-art imaging

“It is important that expectant mothers and their family members are completely comfortable and enjoy their experience before and after the baby is delivered and we hope that a tour of the space will facilitate that,” said Shelly Sanders, manager of Women’s Services at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. “We’re exceptionally proud of the birthing center at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling but beyond the amenities, it’s our compassionate staff of doctors and nurses that make the process as easy and comfortable as possible for new parents.”
