Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation to Hold Inaugural Yes, Mamm! 5K
Lexington, Ky. (October 6, 2015)— The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, will hold an inaugural Yes, Mamm! 5K race on Saturday, October 17, 2015 presented by R.J. Corman Railroad Group. The event will be held at the R.J. Corman Railroad Group Headquarters at 101 R.J. Corman Drive in Nicholasville.
The race is open to all ages and is a fundraiser for the Yes, Mamm! Program, which provides mammography screening and diagnostics to underinsured patients. Every dollar raised will go towards the Yes, Mamm! Program, which serves individuals in Lexington and Nicholasville.
This year, the program is on pace to complete more than 500 mammograms through KentuckyOne Health Breast Care locations in Lexington, Kentucky (Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East, & Saint Joseph Outpatient Imaging at Tate’s Creek) and at the Sandra J. Adams Digital Mammography Suite at Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center in Nicholasville.
“We’re running miles for mammograms and there is no better time to do it than Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, vice president of development, KentuckyOne Health. “More than 500 Kentucky women will lose their battle with breast cancer this year, and the best way to improve this number is with early detection. The Yes, Mamm! 5K will help us raise funds to help women get the screenings and assistance they need.”
Early registration for the Yes, Mamm! 5K is $40 until October 16, 2015 and $50 the day of the event. To register online, visit https://runsignup.com/YesMamm5K. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m., rain or shine. The race is timed for competitive runners, but is also open to families and groups wishing to run/walk at an enjoyable pace.
The Yes, Mamm! program has been funded in part from The Susan G. Komen Lexington Affiliate, Lexington Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer Education Trust, Lexus of Lexington, LBX Co., Inc. and many foundations and generous individual donors.
Since its inception the Yes, Mamm! Program has provided more than 493 screening mammograms, 185 diagnostic mammograms, 168 breast ultrasounds, 11 biopsies and $620 in transportation assistance.
The Yes, Mamm! 5K will offer additional support to accommodate the demand and help supplement funds to allow us to help more patients and their families.
