Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation STARS Gala Committee Grants $55,000

exington, Ky. (February 13, 2015)– Following a successful 26th annual Evening with the STARS gala, the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation STARS committee designated funds to support two programs at Saint Joseph Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health.

The STARS committee granted $50,000 for a new neuro-ICU unit and $5,000 to support the mission of Baby Health Services located at Saint Joseph Hospital.

The number of neurology patients at Saint Joseph Hospital grew more than 19 percent in 2014.  To meet the growing patient demand, a new eight-bed neuro-ICU is under construction on the fifth floor of Saint Joseph Hospital. The Foundation’s grant will support this capital improvement to the hospital for neurology care.

Baby Health Services at Saint Joseph Hospital is a pediatric health clinic providing free medical and dental care to children whose families are ineligible for a medical card or who cannot afford private health insurance. In 2014, Baby Health Services had 2,250 visits where children received free quality health care, medications and/or immunizations. Baby Health Services is funded through grants and a yearly letter campaign to individuals and businesses in the Lexington community.

The 2014 STARS gala, held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, raised more than $100,000 for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. Proceeds from event are used to further the success of health care initiatives at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine.

Over the years, the Evening with the STARS gala has raised more than $1.3 million for mission and outreach services at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center, all part of KentuckyOne Health.

Other projects funded by money raised through the gala include the Patient Family Assistance Fund, nursing scholarships, transportation needs for cancer patients and services for the underserved, including screening mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured. The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation also provided a portion of the funding for the $1 million expansion of KentuckyOne Health Breast Care at Saint Joseph East completed last fall.
