Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Named Hospital of the Year by Mended Hearts


Lexington, Ky. (July 24, 2015)— Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, both part of KentuckyOne Health, were awarded the Central Region Hospital of the Year award at the National Mended Hearts Conference in Orlando.

The local chapter of Mended Hearts nominated Saint Joseph Hospital and the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation to recognize the support of the of the organization and its members.

Mended Hearts is the largest heart patient support network in the world, with 20,000 members and 300 chapters. Recognized for its role in facilitating a positive patient-care experience, Mended Hearts partners with hospitals and cardiac rehab clinics to offer support through visiting programs, group meetings and educational forums. Mended Hearts inspires hope and improves quality of life for heart patients and their families through ongoing peer-to-peer support.

“This award is a testament to the commitment of Saint Joseph Hospital and the Foundation to providing the region’s best care and support for heart patients,” said Robert Salley, MD, executive administrator Cardiovascular Service Line, Saint Joseph Hospital. “Mended Hearts is a tremendous organization and we are honored to be a partner in the services they provide to our community.”

The central region of Mended Hearts covers Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia and the western part of Pennsylvania and contains 27 different chapters.

"This is an incredible honor.  The real heroes are the dedicated Mended Hearts Volunteers who serve Saint Joseph so faithfully,” said Di Boyer, director of major gifts, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation.  “Those therapeutic pillows really give our patients a sense of wellness, healing and hope.  Families share many stories with us about the difference that little pillow made for their loved one.  The Foundation is proud and honored to accept this award and we thank Mended Hearts for all they do."

Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation have supported the local chapter of Mended Hearts with funding for pillows, meeting space, refreshments, speakers and additional general support.
