Saint Joseph Berea Foundation Awards $6,000 in Scholarships to Local Nurses
Six nurses awarded scholarships in the Berea area

Berea, Ky. (August 23, 2017) – The Saint Joseph Berea Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, has awarded six $1,000 scholarships to nurses in the Berea area, totaling $6,000. The funding from the Saint Joseph Berea Foundation helps provide KentuckyOne Health nurses with scholarship opportunities and the ability to help pay off student loans.

Patients and families often rely on nurses to assist them physically and mentally during the healing process. Scholarship incentives help ensure nurses have the tools and training to make a difference in the lives of patients.

A reception was held on July 19, 2017 to honor local nurses selected for a scholarship.

“We want to give back to our nurses, who do so much for our hospitals, patients and community,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, division vice president of development, KentuckyOne Health. “This opportunity will allow them to help pay off student debt and provide them additional help as they further their education.”

Nurses receiving the scholarships include Mirinda Fancher, Tamara Griggs, April Harris, Darcy Maupin, Amanda Sikes and Sydney Slone.

“Receiving this scholarship from the Saint Joseph Berea Foundation will help me personally achieve my educational and professional goals,” said Mirinda Fancher. “I was proud to graduate debt-free as a laboratory technician in 2011. However, when it was time for me to continue my education, I no longer qualified for government assistance and had to take out student loans. This scholarship will ease that debt burden so I can focus on using my new insight and experiences from the classroom to help bring wellness, healing and hope to all.”
