Our Lady of Peace to Host Free Seminar on Making the Transition to Middle School

Frankfort, Ky. (August 24, 2016) — Transitioning from elementary school to middle school isn’t an easy task. That’s why Kosair Charities Children’s Peace Center at Our Lady of Peace, part of KentuckyOne Health, is hosting an education seminar to help parents, teachers and caregivers. The free seminar entitled, “A Successful Transition to Middle School,” will take place on Tuesday, August 30 at 6 p.m. at Elkhorn Middle School, located at 1060 East Main Street in Frankfort.

The seminar is part of the 2016 Peace for Parents educational series. Through the program, Our Lady of Peace experts host educational seminars to help parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors and others who want to learn more about how to face challenging issues with children and adolescents. The seminars usually last an hour.

The speaker for the August event is Erin McGill, LPCA, a clinician with Our Lady of Peace. The seminar will address issues that may arise during this time of transition from elementary to middle school, including social media, developing positive relationships and bullying. McGill will also discuss different stages of development, as well as emotional changes that may take place, and how parents can foster independence, while providing limits for their children.

“The transition from elementary to middle school isn’t always easy for students, and we want to make sure that adults are prepared to help their children,” said Jennifer Nolan, president, Our Lady of Peace. “This series gives parents, teachers and others the information they will need to manage challenges that may arise during this transition.”

Interested individuals are encouraged to register in advance. Registration is free and can be done by calling Lisa Prewitt at 502.432.2011 or by emailing [email protected].
