KentuckyOne Health To Host Inaugural Diabetes and Nutrition Expo
Featuring Celebrity Chef Curtis Aikens

Lexington, Ky. (March 14, 2016) — KentuckyOne Health will host its first annual Diabetes and Nutrition Expo on Saturday, March 19, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lexington at the Keeneland Health Education Center, 1451 Harrodsburg Road, Building D, fourth floor. Anyone currently living with diabetes or at risk for developing the disease is invited to attend this free event.

“More than 29 million Americans suffer from diabetes, and of those, about eight million are actually undiagnosed,” said Dana Graves, manager, KentuckyOne Health Diabetes & Nutrition Care. “Diabetes is clearly a health issue that affects a wide array of people, so we are hopeful that a free event such as this will be another positive step on the path to wellness for those in the community.”

Celebrity chef, author, fresh produce advocate and Novo Nordisk diabetes educator Curtis Aikens will present a healthy cooking demonstration and educational workshop during the expo. Aikens is best known as host of The Food Network’s “Pick of the Day” cooking show. He has been a regular cast member on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” where he shared advice on healthy eating and creative healthful recipes.

Additional educational sessions will be presented by KentuckyOne diabetes experts Bradford Fine, DPM, Podiatry Medicine; Chih Chang, MD, Endocrinologist, Lexington Clinic; Cindy Ashford, Exercise Specialist, KentuckyOne Health at the YMCA; and Janelle Schnake, RD, KentuckyOne Health Diabetes and Nutrition Care.

The expo will also include dozens of vendor and exhibit booths, featuring diabetes information, activities and product samples. Free health screenings will be available for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and more. Giveaways and door prizes will be distributed throughout the event.

While both diabetes and pre-diabetes are serious conditions, they can be managed. The KentuckyOne Health Diabetes & Nutrition Care program works with patients to help them understand the disease, control symptoms and minimize risk for complications. This year’s inaugural Diabetes and Nutrition Expo is one way KentuckyOne plans to raise awareness and educate the Lexington community about the disease.

The expo is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, please visit KentuckyOneHealth.org/DiabetesExpo. For more information, call 859.967.5653 or 859.313.1282.
