KentuckyOne Health Partners Achieves CAPG “Elite 5-Star” Status

Louisville, Ky. (July 20, 2017) – KentuckyOne Health Partners (KHP), the state’s largest and most successful accountable care organization, has achieved Elite 5-Star status from CAPG, the nation’s leading professional association for accountable physician groups. KHP is one of only 87 organizations nationally to achieve the coveted Elite honor in 2017. This recognition, along with recent qualification as an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (Advanced APM), comes as the organization is celebrating its 5th anniversary.

“Our physicians, supported by KHP’s multidisciplinary team of health coaches, social workers and pharmacists, have worked tirelessly to ensure our patients receive the highest value, patient-centered care available,” said Don Lovasz, president of KentuckyOne Health Partners. “Our success over such a short period of time comes because of daily focus on better health, better care, better experience and lower cost for the patients we serve.”

The Elite 5-Star status is earned through participation in CAPG’s Standards of Excellence Survey. Recognized as the industry standard to assess the delivery of accountable and value-based care, the voluntary survey is offered to almost 300 CAPG medical group members in 43 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

“Notably this year, the majority of the Clinical Quality Leadership Committee voted to raise the bar for SOE® (Standards of Excellence) by increasing the attainment thresholds for each domain, aligning with the program’s mission to drive enhanced performance and quality of care,” said Amy Nguyen Howell, MD, chief medical officer of CAPG.

CAPG is the leading professional association for accountable physician groups in the U.S. Their members operate under a capitated, coordinated care model that is the essence of the nation’s health reform movement from volume to value.

In addition to being the largest Medicare-certified Accountable Care Organization (ACO) in Kentucky, KHP manages the only Kentucky-based hip and knee episode program, and in 2017 became a Medicare Next Generation ACO. KentuckyOne Health Partners has been recognized three times among “100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review, is considered one the 15 largest ACOs in the country, and has been sighted in several national reports and publications.

Medicare ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, who come together voluntarily to provide coordinated high quality care to their Medicare patients. The goal of coordinated care is to ensure that patients, especially the chronically ill, get the right care at the right time, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.
