KentuckyOne Health introduces Anywhere Care 2.0,
improves access to 24/7 virtual urgent care across the Commonwealth

Louisville, Ky. (April 8, 2015)—KentuckyOne Anywhere Care, KentuckyOne Health’s virtual care service that connects patients with primary care providers 24/7 by phone or video chat, has received an upgrade. The changes to the service make it easier for patients to access care in a number of ways.

Using KentuckyOne Anywhere Care, new or established patients can consult with board-certified family practice providers without leaving home—24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients request care online at KentuckyOneAnywhereCare.org or by calling a toll-free phone number—
855.356.8054. Following a request, patients receive a phone or video chat call from a provider within 30 minutes.

Upgrades to KentuckyOne Anywhere Care include a new embedded video option that connects patients with providers directly through the Anywhere Care website, without the need for outside video chat services, such as Skype.

The upgraded KentuckyOne Anywhere Care service also allows patients to create an account on the site and easily access their visit summary with instructions for care following a visit. Creating an account allows regular users to access care more quickly without re-entering personal information.

“KentuckyOne Anywhere Care is ideal for patients with common health concerns, in particular after hours and when their primary care provider is unavailable,” said Kathy Love, strategy and business development, KentuckyOne Health Central East Kentucky Market. “The newly upgraded portal makes it easier than ever for patients to get care when they need it, right from home.”

KentuckyOne Anywhere Care providers can treat common conditions like colds and flu, sore throats, rashes, allergies, bladder infections and more. Providers may prescribe medications, if appropriate, recommend an over-the-counter medication or provide home care options. Providers do not prescribe or refill prescriptions for controlled substances such as narcotic pain relievers.

KentuckyOne Anywhere Care also provides a follow-up report to the patient’s KentuckyOne provider following a visit.  If needed, the KentuckyOne Anywhere Care provider will refer patients to a KentuckyOne Health primary care provider or to an emergency department.

“Increasing access to primary care providers is an important part of our work to create a healthier Kentucky,” said Love. “When convenient options to care are available, patients are more likely to seek help for common concerns, which prevents serious illnesses from developing.”

KentuckyOne Anywhere Care is offered through a partnership with Carena, Inc., a pioneer in the use of telemedicine. When it launched Anywhere Care in 2013, KentuckyOne Health was among the first hospital systems in the U.S. to make such a service available to the public.

KentuckyOne Anywhere Care costs $35 per visit and is paid by the patient, whether or not they are covered by insurance. The cost is less than a typical visit to urgent care and a fraction of the cost of a normal emergency room visit.

To request a visit through KentuckyOne Anywhere Care, call toll-free 855.356.8054 or visit KentuckyOneAnywhereCare.org. KentuckyOne Anywhere Care is available to any resident of Kentucky. A patient testimonial is available here.
