KentuckyOne Cancer Care at Saint Joseph East to Host Free Cancer Screening Event

Lexington, Ky. (September 1, 2015)— KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care at Saint Joseph East is hosting a free cancer prevention and screening event on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Screenings for breast, prostate and skin cancer will be provided to those who make appointments in advance. Interested individuals should call 859.313.2255 for more information or to schedule a screening.

In addition, colon and lung cancer screenings will be offered, but do not require an advance appointment.

“Kentucky has some of the highest cancer rates in the country,” said Mindy McKinley, regional director, KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care. “Early detection is a critical tool in reducing cancer deaths in the Commonwealth. When cancer is detected in early stages more treatment options are typically available and outcomes improve. This event is a wonderful opportunity for community members to receive the screenings they need and learn more about health and wellness.”

Mammography screenings will be available for women 40 and older and to women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer.

Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) and prostate exams will be offered for all men ages 50-75, African-American men 40 and older and men with a family history of prostate cancer.

Skin cancer exams will be provided free to attendees over age 65 and individuals with a considerable history of sun exposure.

On-site screening for colon cancer will be provided for persons over age 50 or those who have a personal history of colorectal cancer, polyps or inflammatory bowel disease.

Low-dose CT screenings for lung cancer are recommended for heavy smokers ages 55-74, including those who have quit smoking more than 15 years ago.

In addition to cancer screenings, blood pressure checks and prevention and wellness information will be available. Attendees can participate in “Ask a Doc” and “Ask a Pharmacist” sessions and take a tour of KentuckyOne Health’s inflatable colon.

KentuckyOne Cancer Care at Saint Joseph East is located at 3470 Blazer Parkway.
