Health Screenings Compliment West Louisville Return to School Event

On Thursday, August 4, University of Louisville Hospital, along with other KentuckyOne Health partners, will provide free health education and screenings, including mammograms, cholesterol, stroke, blood glucose, blood pressure, vision, hearing dental and mental health screenings.

It’s just one of the many offerings at the "Safe and Healthy Return to School" event, presented by NorthWest Neighborhood Place. Beyond the health fair, there will be free school supplies (while they last), JCPS information, and both academic and community resources.

Participants who complete more than three screenings receive a backpack filled with school supplies. Those who complete 10 screenings or information booths are entered into a lottery to win bicycles and helmets, donated by Frazier Rehab Institute.

This marks the fifth for the health fair in west Louisville backed by KentuckyOne Health. It grew out of an initiative from University of Louisville Hospital’s Diversity Committee.  The committee, founded by staff members, focuses on the underlying inequities that lead to the health disparities among diverse communities.  Today the committee includes staff from Jewish Hospital and others from KentuckyOne Health, working together to proactively meet the needs of the underserved.

The event will be held at NorthWest Neighborhood Place, located within Shawnee High School. NorthWest Neighborhood Place works with the community to provide blended accessible health, education, employment and human services that support children and families in their progress toward self-sufficiency.
