Flaget Memorial Hospital Walk with a Doc Planned for May 9

Bardstown, Ky. (April 29, 2015)—Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health, will continue the popular Walk with a Doc event series on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Renee Abell, APRN, will be walking with participants and answering questions. Her topic will be “exercising for fun.”

The monthly event is held on the second Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Old Courthouse Building downtown (One Court Square).  It’s part of a nationwide program that empowers people to improve their health through physical activity by exercising side-by-side with their health care providers.

All are welcome; participants are encouraged to invite family and friends to walk together toward a healthier lifestyle. Participants can also receive free health screenings at the events.

Brisk walking has been shown to reduce body fat, lower blood pressure, increase high-density lipoprotein, and even reduce risks of bone fracture, according to America Walks. Walking is also associated with lower mortality rates from cardiovascular disease and cancer and fits into a recommended daily exercise routine.
