Flaget Memorial Hospital President Recognized By Becker’s Hospital Review
Bardstown, Ky. (January 30, 2015)— Sue Downs, president of Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health, was recognized as one of “50 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know” in Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading hospital magazine for hospital business news and analysis for hospital and health system executives.
The list contains 50 presidents, CEOs and administrators that dedicate their time to bettering health care in their communities and triumph in providing health care in rural or smaller towns. The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected leaders through an editorial review process where a number of factors were considered, including awards received; local, regional and national leadership positions held; and their organizations' recent performance. Nominations were also considered.
"I have a wonderful team at Flaget Memorial Hospital and their support makes all the difference," said Downs. "I am honored to lead such a talented group and to receive this recognition."
Downs, who has nearly 40 years of experience, began her career in health care as a nurse and holds a master’s degree in nursing. She currently leads the 52-bed Flaget Memorial Hospital, and was named interim president of Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, also part of KentuckyOne Health, in November of 2014.
During her tenure at Flaget Memorial, Downs oversaw the development of a $7.8 million medical office building for orthopedics, as well as outpatient rehabilitation services and physician offices.
Downs is active in the Bardstown community and serves on the board of the nonprofit organization Bardstown At Home, which provides transportation to medical appointments and help with grocery shopping for senior citizens in rural communities.
