Community Mass to Celebrate
140th Anniversary of Saint Joseph Hospital
Event on Wednesday, January 24 at Cathedral of Christ the King
Founded in 1877, Saint Joseph Hospital is celebrating 140 years in the Lexington community. The hospital, which was the first in Lexington, has pioneered many firsts in the health care community.
This includes having the first school of nursing in central Kentucky (1921), opening the first local blood bank in Lexington (1939), having Kentucky’s first post-anesthesia recovery room (1951), having the first kidney machine in Kentucky (1956), performing central Kentucky’s first open heart surgery (1959), being the first in the state to purchase a CAT Scan (1974), and offering the first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) (2014).
To commemorate the anniversary of Saint Joseph Hospital being affiliated with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and being part of the community, the hospital will hold an Anniversary Mass on Wednesday, January 24.
