Bourbon & Bluegrass Holiday Bash to Benefit Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation
Funds raised at holiday party will enhance cancer care services at Flaget Memorial Hospital

Bardstown, Ky. (December 21, 2016) – The Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, hosted the Bourbon & Bluegrass Holiday Bash, presented by Beam Suntory, on Saturday, December 10 at the Jim Beam American Stillhouse in Clermont. The bash raised nearly $60,000 for cancer care services at Flaget Memorial Hospital, and the event sold out months in advance.

“The Bourbon & Bluegrass Holiday Bash was a great opportunity for the community to celebrate the holidays, experience the best of Kentucky’s heritage, and support those suffering from cancer,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, division vice president of development, KentuckyOne Health. “We are grateful for the support that will be used to change – and save – many lives.”

Funds raised from the event will support an expansion of Flaget’s Cancer Center and the purchase of 3D mammography equipment. As early detection is key to successful treatment, 3D mammography improves breast cancer detection rates and decreases callbacks, which lessens anxiety for patients. This, coupled with the planned Flaget Cancer Center expansion, which includes a pharmacy and three more infusion rooms, allows KentuckyOne Health to better care for those battling cancer.

“We were honored to host the Bourbon & Bluegrass Holiday Bash at the Jim Beam American Stillhouse,” said Kevin Smith, vice president of Kentucky Beam Bourbon Affairs, Beam Suntory and a member of the Foundation’s Board. “This event was an extension of our philanthropic mission of “Growing for Good” in our community, and to share our success with worthwhile causes nearby and worldwide.”

During the event, guests enjoyed specialty holiday cocktails, live Bluegrass music, bourbon tastings, Kentucky-inspired cuisine, and a live auction.

About 3D Mammography and Cancer infusion
The 3D mammography equipment is an FDA-approved advanced technology that takes multiple images, or X-rays, of breast tissue to recreate a 3D picture of the breast. Using 3D mammography makes it easier for doctors to catch breast cancer early, helps catch more cancers, and allows doctors to see the cancer size much better than they can with a regular mammogram. The 3D mammography technology also reduces the chances of doctors seeing a false positive.

Outpatient infusion services provide intravenous infusions of fluids, medications and therapeutic injections, in an accessible outpatient environment. Infusion therapy is particularly beneficial for patients that cannot take medications by mouth.
