27th Annual Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Evening with the STARS Gala Honors Physicians and Community Volunteers

Lexington, Ky. (November 24, 2015) – The 27th annual Evening with the STARS Gala raised a record amount of more than $100,000 for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health. Proceeds from event are used to further the success of health care initiatives at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine health care initiatives, all part of KentuckyOne Health.

Three awards were given at the gala, held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Lexington Convention Center. This year’s award recipients included:
• Charles Kennedy, MD - The President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph Hospital
• Mahmoud Moammar, MD- The President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph East
• Larry Cowgill and Doug Hacker, Congleton-Hacker Co. - Community Volunteer of the Year
Others who were recognized at the event and include nominees for the President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph Hospital:

Nominees for the President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph East:

• Magdalene Karon, MD
• Tharun Karthikeyan, MD

Nomination for the President’s Award for Physician of the Year were submitted by staff at each respective hospital. All Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East medical staff in active status were eligible to be nominated.

Over the years, the Evening with the STARS gala has raised more than $1.3 million for mission and outreach services at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center, all part of KentuckyOne Health.

Money raised through the gala has funded a number of projects including Patient Family Assistance Fund, nursing scholarships, $1 million for the expansion of KentuckyOne Health Breast Care at Saint Joseph East, transportation needs for cancer patients and services for the underserved, including screening mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured.
