26th Annual Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Evening with the STARS Gala Honors Physicians and Community Volunteers

 

Lexington, Ky. – The 26th annual Evening with the STARS Gala raised a record amount of more than $100,000 for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health. Proceeds from event are used to further the success of Saint Joseph Hospital’s, Saint Joseph East’s and Saint Joseph Jessamine’s health care initiatives.

Three awards were given at the gala, held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Embassy Suites in Lexington. This year’s award recipients included:

 

  • David Blake, M.D. - The President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph Hospital
  • Kimberly Stigers, M.D. - The President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph East
  • Helen O. Hamilton - Outstanding Community Volunteer of the Year

Others who were recognized at the event and include nominees for the President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph Hospital:

  • Jon Bowen, M.D.
  • Grant Breazeale, M.D.
  • Dermot Halpin, M.D.
  • Joshua Huffman, M.D.
  • Charles Kennedy, M.D.
  • Samer Kseibi, M.D.
  • Scott Pierce, M.D.
  • John Stewart, M.D.
  • Jeff Weaver, M.D.

Nominees for the President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph East:

  • Marta Kenney, M.D.
  • Hossam Zohary, M.D.
  • Yasser Zohary, M.D.

 

Nomination for the President’s Award for Physician of the Year were submitted by staff at each respective hospital. All Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East medical staff in active status were eligible to be nominated.

The event included cocktails, dinner, awards and silent auction, followed by dancing to the sounds of the group Mercy Men.

Over the years, the Evening with the STARS gala has raised more than $1.2 million for mission and outreach services at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center, all part of KentuckyOne Health.

Money raised through the gala has funded projects such as the Patient Family Assistance Fund, nursing scholarships, transportation needs for cancer patients and services for the underserved, including screening mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured.  Most recently, the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation also provided a portion of the funding for the $1 million expansion of KentuckyOne Health Breast Care at Saint Joseph East.
