Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East Receives $100,000 Grant to Purchase Equipment for Labor and Delivery Care

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 27, 2022) – The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, on behalf of the Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East, has received a $100,000 grant from WHAS Crusade for Children that will be used to purchase equipment to benefit newborns in the Lexington area.

This gift will help fund a refresh of the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East, the only freestanding Kentucky hospital dedicated to Women’s and Neonatal Health Services. The grant will fund replacement of vital equipment to continue ensuring the hospital is able to provide the highest level of care to patients 28 weeks or older, while also providing infants suffering from neonatal abstinence syndrome and other special needs with the highest quality of medical tools to monitor their fragile state.

“Last year, more than 14% of the births at the Women’s Hospital were admitted to the NICU,” said Leslie Smart, CFRE, president, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. “We know that babies born prematurely and those born with special needs require close monitoring and specialized medical care. We are able to update this critical equipment in the NICU thanks to the generosity of the WHAS Crusade for Children.”

"Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East provides vital care for the tiniest patients,” said Dawn Lee, president and CEO, WHAS Crusade for Children. “We are proud to help the hospital make critical updates to equipment to continue providing the very best care to newborns in the Lexington area who are experiencing medical challenges.”
