Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Recognizes Local Nurse with Daisy Award

Mount Sterling, Ky. (November 18, 2019) — Saint Joseph Mount Sterling has announced its most recent Daisy Award winner. Laken Nickell, RN, received the Daisy Award in recognition of her outstanding teamwork and selfless work ethic demonstrated with fellow staff, patients and their families.

The Daisy Award is part of a nationwide program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Saint Joseph Mount Sterling is proud to be a Daisy Award Partner, recognizing a nurse with this special honor every quarter.

Nickell was nominated by a co-worker for the Daisy Award due to her remarkable willingness to do whatever is required of her to keep patients and fellow staff from falling behind. She goes above and beyond, even if that means she has to work longer or complete tasks that are outside of her job description, the co-worker said in the nomination.

“She always gives 100 percent and puts everyone before herself,” said the co-worker. “This hospital is lucky that she is part of our team.”

In one instance, a patient was admitted to the medical surgical unit and the patient’s heart rate jumped to a dangerously high level. Nickell helped stabilize the patient’s heart rate while remaining calm, reassuring, and taking attention away from the severity of what was happening. She stayed until the patient was admitted to the intensive care unit, then went on to care for all of her other patients without missing a beat.

Nickell was recognized with a Daisy Award certificate and statue for her accomplishments.
