Saint Joseph London to Host ‘No Egg-cuse for Child Abuse’ Event - Archived

London, Ky. (March 26, 2019) – In recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month in April, Saint Joseph London will host a free community event called No Egg-cuse for Child Abuse on Saturday, April 13. Community child advocacy agencies and vendors will be on-site providing information about child abuse, neglect and other crimes against children.

“The goal of this event is to raise awareness about such an important cause, and to prevent child abuse in the London community,” said Mollie Harris, LSW, MS, violence prevention coordinator, Saint Joseph London.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 1 in 4 children experience some form of child abuse or neglect in their lifetimes, and 1 in 7 children have experienced abuse or neglect in the last year.

“These are heartbreaking statistics,” said Harris. “At Saint Joseph London, we want to do all that we can to ensure the safety of children. Raising awareness during April, which is Child Abuse Awareness Month, is one way we are working toward that goal.”

The event features an Easter egg hunt, a photo booth, lantern release, community pinwheel planting and door prizes, as well as fun activities and games. Art from local elementary schools will be displayed and light refreshments will be served. It will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Saint Joseph London Lake Walking Path, located at 1001 Saint Joseph Lane. A community blue ribbon shaped photo, representing the awareness month, will be taken at 2 p.m.

This program is made possible through the Violence Prevention Grant from CHI Mission and Ministry. In addition to Saint Joseph London, the event is sponsored by the Safe Child Coalition and by Treetop Adventure at Levi Jackson State Park.
