Saint Joseph London Recognizing Specialized Nurses - Archived

London, Ky. (October 29, 2019) – Saint Joseph London will salute medical-surgical nurses and the valuable role they play in patient care this week. The hospital has planned a special week of recognition, events and activities for nurses and other team members during Medical-Surgical Nurses Week, November 1-7, 2019.

The week is part of a nationwide celebration of this important group of medical professionals.

Medical-surgical nurses are registered nurses (RNs) practicing one of today’s most broad and diverse nursing specialties, caring for adult patients who are acutely ill or who are recovering from surgery, and applying their expert knowledge to all body systems and a wide range of disease processes.

“Medical-surgical nurses possess specialized skills and knowledge of the entire spectrum of nursing care,” said Shannon Adams, MSN, RN, Medical-Surgical Director. “Our nurses work hard to meet all of their patients’ needs, physically, emotionally and spiritually, and I’m proud that Saint Joseph London is honoring them and recognizing their work during Medical-Surgical Nurses Week.”

Adams said that in addition to improving patient care every day, medical-surgical nurses make a difference by building the profession of nursing and the medical-surgical nursing specialty, mentoring and nurturing each other, advocating for patients and families, and serving their communities through care and education.

Medical-surgical nursing is the largest nursing specialty in the United States. Each year, the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) designates this week to celebrate the commitment and compassion of these nurses and to raise awareness of the medical-surgical nursing specialty.
