Saint Joseph London Honors Employees with DAISY and BEE Awards

LONDON, Ky. (October 14, 2021) – Saint Joseph London has named its DAISY Award and BEE Award winners for the first quarter of 2022. Cindy Barger, Progressive Care Unit, of London, received the DAISY Award for extraordinary patient care, and Nicole Day, Emergency Department, of London, received the BEE Award for exceptional service.

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Saint Joseph London is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing a nurse with this special honor every quarter. Cindy Barger was nominated for the DAISY Award by a Saint Joseph London patient and the patient’s family member.

“Being a newly diagnosed patient with terminal cancer, it was a truly scary time for myself and my family with all these new changes and hard decisions,” said the patient. “Cindy is a godsend. She was so patient with us, made sure I was pain free, and sat down and spent so much time with me knowing she was busy. She held my hand and got it approved for my family to come see me. I am so thankful God sent her to be there for me and I pray for her daily.”

The patient’s daughter recognized Cindy for her extra care and support for her mother.

“Cindy was so good to my mom, and I can never thank her enough,” said the patient’s daughter. “I witnessed her fixing my mom’s hair, hugging her, praying with her and always being a shoulder for her to cry on. Being a nurse in acute care, I know how busy the floors are and she didn’t have to do to do the things she did. She is such an amazing person. Thank you, Cindy!”

Similar to the DAISY Award, the BEE Award is a program that honors Saint Joseph London’s nursing support staff – patient care assistants, housekeepers, respiratory therapists, health unit coordinators, dietary, transporters and various other team members – who go above and beyond in service, care and compassion. The BEE Award celebrates unsung heroes who make an impact outside their daily duties and go above and Beyond Exceptional Expectations (BEE). In the first quarter, Nicole Day was nominated for the BEE Award by her colleague.

“A patient was in Emergency Department for seven days due to social issues, and Nicole befriended the patient and sat patiently with him and fed him,” said Nicole’s colleague. “She also took him outside for fresh air. Nicole always provides the best care to all her patients.”

The DAISY Award winners receive a certificate, DAISY Award pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture. The BEE Award winners are honored with a certificate and a BEE Award pin.
