Saint Joseph London Acquires New Equipment for Measurement and Diagnosis of Pulmonary Function

London, Ky. (July 9, 2013)—The department of pulmonology at Saint Joseph London has acquired new equipment used to measure pulmonary function in the diagnosis of airway diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, allergies and other lung conditions.

Kentucky has one of the highest death rates from COPD in the nation.

The Medical Graphics Platinum EliteTM Series plethysmograph is used to measure the functional residual capacity of the lungs, the volume in the lungs when the muscles of respiration are relaxed, and total lung capacity. It is currently being used at 1210 West 5th Street, London.

The new equipment is the most advanced available today and offers several features to improve diagnostic and ongoing disease management. It can test pediatric through adult patients and the expanded seating space accommodates larger and tall patients with virtually no weight restriction.

The Saint Joseph London pulmonary medicine team provides testing, diagnosis and treatment for lung disease and disorders. During treatment, the medical team focuses on education and rehabilitation to help control the symptoms that negatively affect patients' health and quality of life.

The new digital technology affords the maximum in accuracy, reliability, speed and serviceability.

“The advanced technology of this unit allows us to provide physicians with accurate results for all tests performed while focusing on the comfort of our patients,” said Jerrell Cloud, director, Pulmonary Medicine, Rehab Services and Non Invasive Cardiology at Saint Joseph London.
