Saint Joseph Hospital Respiratory Therapist Diana Walker Earns Nationally Recognized PHIL Award - Archived

Lexington, Ky. (November 13 2019) – Saint Joseph Hospital presented the 2019 PHIL Award to respiratory therapist Diana Walker, RRT, as part of its annual Respiratory Care Celebration. Walker received the PHIL (Pulmonary Health and Illnesses of the Lung) Award in recognition of her exceptional treatment and ability to motivate patients by going above and beyond her duties in their support and care.

The PHIL Award is the only nationally acknowledged hospital-based recognition program honoring outstanding respiratory therapists. Walker is one of 19 honorees around the country, and Saint Joseph Hospital is the only hospital in Kentucky to have a respiratory therapist recognized with this honor.

A co-worker nominated Walker for the award, citing her consistently polite and eager attitude, her willingness to come in early and stay late, her constant enthusiasm for passing along her medical knowledge, and her role as a beacon of spiritual support for patients and co-workers.

“She is professional, kind and treats all patients with dignity,” said her nominator. “I love that Diana sees the healing power of prayer for her patients. Diana consistently demonstrates the core values of excellence, integrity and compassion.”

The PHIL Award was created in 2006 in honor of Philip C. Lamka, who fought Interstitial Lung Disease. The award honors and recognizes the unsung heroes in the respiratory profession who understand that each breath matters.
