Flaget Memorial Hospital

Bardstown, Ky. (March 31, 2014)— Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health, will give local residents the opportunity to exercise alongside physicians, have their health related questions answered and receive complementary blood pressure check at monthly Walk With a Doc events beginning April 12, 2014.

Walk with a Doc events in Bardstown will take place at 10 a.m. every second Saturday of the month at the Old Courthouse Building downtown (One Court Square). The first event will be lead by Deborah Ballard, M.D., MPH, with KentuckyOne Health Primary Care.

Walk With a Doc is a nationwide program that empowers people to improve their health through physical activity by exercising side-by-side with their healthcare providers.

No special equipment or registration is needed to participate. All are welcome; participants are encouraged to invite family and friends to walk together toward a healthier lifestyle.

Walking regularly goes a long way for improving health and according to the American Heart Association, walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity. Walking is low impact, making it much easier on joints than running. It is also safer for people with orthopedic ailments, heart conditions, and those who are more than 20 percent overweight. In addition, recent studies have shown that every hour of regular exercise can potentially add up to two hours of life expectancy.
