Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation Receives Grant for More Than $300,000

Funding Will Continue Nelson County Green Dot Violence Prevention Program

Bardstown, Ky. (July 17, 2018) — The Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, has received a grant for $327,741 from the Catholic Health Initiatives Mission and Ministry Fund for continued funding of the Green Dot Program in Nelson County. The mission of the Green Dot Program is to reduce school-age bullying, sexual assault and dating violence within our schools and community.

“The Green Dot Program engages both students and community members in order to establish intolerance of violence as the norm in local schools through learned behaviors and actions,” said Jennifer Nolan, president of Flaget Memorial Hospital. “We are so thankful for this gift that will allow us to continue providing Green Dot participants in Nelson County with violence prevention awareness, education and skills.”

When it began, the Green Dot Program leaders set a goal of training 15 percent of the student population in Nelson County.

“Thanks to the cooperation and partnership of the Nelson County School District, Bardstown School District, Bethlehem High School and the Community Violence Prevention Coalition, this initiative has already exceeded that goal by 80 percent,” said Raffo Wimsett, Chair of the Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation board. “We are proud to be a part of such an important program aimed at making our students safer.”

In its next phase, the program hopes to inspire high school students to pass along their learning and commitment to safety to the next generation of students. The overall goal of the initiative is to reduce the incidence of violence, specifically school-age bullying, by 15 percent by 2021.

This funding initiative was led by Jennifer Nolan, President of Flaget Memorial Hospital; Jennifer Fowler, Project Coordinator of Flaget Memorial Hospital’s Green Dot Program; and Janell Samuels, Director of Proposal Development for KentuckyOne Health Foundations.
