Eleventh Annual Saint Joseph London Gala Raises $120,000 for NICU

LONDON, Ky. (February 4, 2020) – The Saint Joseph London Foundation’s 11th annual Gala for Hope raised $120,000 on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. Proceeds from the event will support the establishment of a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Saint Joseph London.

“Many babies who are in need of intensive care services often have to be transferred to Lexington,” said Leslie Smart, CFRE, president, CHI Saint Joseph London Foundation. “Through the NICU addition at Saint Joseph London, we hope to be able to alleviate families of any excess financial and emotional burdens associated with traveling a far distance to receive care.”

Once complete, the $1.4 million expansion and renovation project will make Saint Joseph London one of only two hospitals in the entire southeastern region of Kentucky with a Birthing Center and a NICU.

The Gala for Hope was held at the London Community Center and included a silent auction, dinner, live music and an awards presentation.

Arif Khan, MD, was awarded Physician of the Year at the event. Dr. Khan has worked as a hospitalist for Saint Joseph London for 15 years.

Mark Roark, APRN, was awarded the Advanced Practice Clinician of the Year. He works for CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics serving Saint Joseph London.

Over the last 11 years, the Gala for Hope has raised nearly $420,000 for the Saint Joseph London Foundation, which invests in outstanding patient care facilities and services, the education of health caregivers, advanced clinical research and improved access to quality medical care.
