Dr. Phyo Phyo Ye Kyaw Joins CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 24, 2021) – Phyo Phyo Ye Kyaw, MD, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Pulmonology in Lexington. As a first-generation physician, Dr. Kyaw practices with the belief that helping patients breathe easier is a privilege – a vital service as our communities experience the second year of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Kyaw received her education in Burma from the University of Medicine 2, Myanmar, and completed her post-graduate trainings at Texas Tech University and Southern Illinois University. During her residency and fellowship, Dr. Kyaw completed rotations within internal medicine, pulmonary consults, level 1 trauma, cardiac intensive care unit (ICU), and neuro ICU among numerous others.

“As a pulmonologist, I need to help my patients understand their lung diseases, but I also need to help them make informed decisions on how to seek the appropriate treatment,” said Dr. Kyaw. “Whenever I meet a patient, I try to know not only their diseases but also who they are as a person.”

Dr. Kyaw has received several honors, including grants, scholarships and awards. Notable accolades include the receipt of the best abstract winner of American Thoracic Society, Inc. in 2019, honorable mention of Dr. Pilla Research Award in 2019 and 2021 and the CHEST Foundation Diversity Travel Grant in 2019.

Dr. Kyaw brings her pulmonology expertise to CHI Saint Joseph Health during an interesting time in history and plans to provide more general education as to why the COVID-19 vaccination is vital for overall health and wellness. “There are still a great number of people who haven’t received their COVID-19 vaccination yet,” said Dr. Kyaw. She also encourages her patients to pursue a healthy lifestyle and maintain an appropriate weight. “Obesity has the potential to affect the body just as badly as a disease, contributing to breathing problems and also inflammation which can lead to uncontrolled asthma and other lung diseases.”

Dr. Kyaw notes that when interviewing at CHI Saint Joseph Health in Lexington, the staffs were very collegial with a family-like bond which further influenced her decision to join the team.

Dr. Kyaw is accepting new patients and will practice at 211 Fountain Court, Suite 210, Lexington, KY 40509. To make an appointment with Dr. Kyaw, visit www.CHISaintJosephHealth.org or call 859.629.7145.
