Dr. Bilal Aslam Joins CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 2, 2021) – Bilal Aslam, MD, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Gastroenterology in Lexington. Hailing from a family of physicians, Dr. Aslam set his sights on the medical field at a young age and never looked back. With his family as his support, Dr. Aslam adopted a medical philosophy that’s created close ties that span well beyond his bloodline.

“I try to treat all my patients like family,” said Dr. Aslam. “It’s caring for my patients, but also educating them to the point that they understand the risks and benefits of what you’re doing … this can be challenging, so ensuring I’ve established a familial type of relationship gives my patients a sense of ease and positivity during treatment.”

Dr. Aslam first experienced Kentucky at age 12 when his family moved from New York City to Morehead, Kentucky. “Basically, I’ve been in Kentucky for the last 22 years,” said Dr. Aslam. Dr. Aslam attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate education and medical school, as well as his residency fellowship. Dr. Aslam says he has done his best to meet people where they are in terms of education around gastrointestinal health.

“My role is to make sure patients are well educated and have shared decision-making in doing what is best for their lifestyle,” said Dr. Aslam. “Access to care and education are big issues in Kentucky, and I think those things have an impact on overall health and understanding.”

Dr. Aslam also has taught rising high school seniors at the University of Kentucky’s Area Health Education Center (AHEC), where he implemented an interactive, lab-based introductory physiology curriculum. Dr. Aslam is fluent in both the Urdu and Punjabi languages, with career interests in advanced/therapeutic endoscopy, gastrointestinal bleeding, and systems-based practice.

“I’m very much looking forward to being part of the CHI Saint Joseph Health,” said Dr. Aslam. “I’m excited to get to work. My kids were all born in Kentucky as well as my entire family. My sister is a resident at the University of Kentucky, so my ties to this place are very strong.”

When he isn’t working, Dr. Aslam spends most of his time with his wife, Leslie, who is a triple board-certified psychiatrist, his three children, and their goldendoodle. He also enjoys hiking and remaining close to a shoreline where he can experience the water.

Dr. Aslam is accepting new patients and will practice at 1401 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40504. To make an appointment with Dr. Aslan visit www.chisaintjosephhealth.org or call 859.278.8400.
