Community invited to wear light blue and attend Diabetes Day event at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling - Archived

Mount Sterling, Ky. (October 31, 2019) — CHI Saint Joseph Health – Diabetes and Nutrition Care, along with the Montgomery County Health Department, invite the community to wear light blue and attend a celebration recognizing World Diabetes Day on Thursday, November 14. The event will take place in the main lobby at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The facility is located at 225 Falcon Drive in Mount Sterling.

“Diabetes affects nearly 1 in 11 people, including more than 460,000 Kentuckians, as well as others who are considered to have prediabetes,” said Cathi Warfield, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. “This event will help the community understand the similarities and differences between Type 1, Type 2 and prediabetes, and how to lower your risk for developing the disease. We will also provide helpful, educational tips and the opportunity for screenings for those currently living with diabetes.”

At the event, attendees can learn about managing diabetes and nutrition, as well as foot care and ways to reduce the risk for stroke. Diabetes-friendly food samples will be available, along with recipes, so that guests can recreate them at home. Those who participate in the event will be entered to win exciting giveaways and door prizes.

Saint Joseph Mount Sterling will offer a variety of complimentary screenings at the celebration, including blood pressure screenings and retinal screening for diabetic retinopathy. The Bluegrass Lions Diabetes Project will offer HgB A1c screenings.

Event attendees, as well as the entire Mount Sterling community, are encouraged to wear light blue on November 14 in recognition of World Diabetes Day.
