CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics in Mount Sterling and Lexington Welcomes New Physician Assistant

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (Aug. 8, 2023) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics in Mount Sterling and Lexington have added Claire Maxted, PA-C, to their growing team. The Annapolis, Maryland, native spent the past five years pursuing her education and treating patients in the Philadelphia area.

“I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery,” said Maxted. “I grew up as an athlete, especially swimming and running, so I saw a lot of injuries along the way, which truly inspired me to help others get back to their active lifestyles.”

When serving her patients, Maxted said her care philosophy is centered around treating them like family. “I strive to care for every patient like one of my loved ones and give them my honest opinion,” said Maxted. In her previous roles, Maxted focused on issues related to complications and infections due to joint replacements and neglect, drug use, and obesity. Maxted said the best part of working in orthopedics is working hand-in-hand with her patients.

“I really enjoy the comprehensive aspect of being in an office and surgery because it allows me to have that continuity of care for my patients and forming relationships with them,” said Maxted.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences and a minor in microbiology from Clemson University in 2017, Maxted moved to Pennsylvania where she earned her Master of Medical Science and Master of Public Health from Arcadia University. Following graduation, she served as a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery in Philadelphia for nearly two years. She said she’s excited to now serve the Mount Sterling and Lexington communities, focusing on general orthopedics and helping patients get back on their feet again. 

“It’s important for me to work with my patients and get them back to doing what they love – whether it’s playing sports or other high-impact activities,” said Maxted. “I’m looking forward to serving patients in the Mount Sterling and Lexington areas and helping them return to their lives before their injuries.”

When she’s not seeing patients, Maxted enjoys staying active, including swimming, running and walking her Weimaraner, Laverna. Maxted is also a huge college football fan, and she especially loves cheering on Clemson University and the University of Kentucky.
