CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Gastroenterology Welcomes New Nurse Practitioner

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 2, 2024) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Gastroenterology in Lexington welcomes Erika Moffitt, MSN, RN, NP-C, to its team of caregivers. Moffitt brings a profound passion for gastroenterology, coupled with a dedication to establishing meaningful connections with her patients.

Moffitt grew up with a strong interest in science, math and medicine, and said she knew nursing would be the right career path. “A big reason why I chose to study medicine was because I liked the direct interaction with patients and being able to take care of people.”

Choosing the field of gastroenterology was a happenstance for Moffitt. “It was my initial job out of school – it kind of fell into my lap, and I ended up finding my passion,” said Moffitt. When it comes to specialties in the field, Moffitt said she enjoys treating patients with liver and gastrointestinal issues, including hepatitis C.

While treating her patients, Moffitt said she enjoys establishing genuine connections with them, fostering a partnership in their health care journey. Ensuring that every patient's voice is not only acknowledged but also valued, she emphasizes the importance of recognizing each individual beyond their medical history or cultural values.

“I treat my patients as people. They’re not just a number; they’re a person,” said Moffitt. “The best part of my job is connecting with my patients and getting to the point where I can tell them their disease is gone. It’s a truly gratifying moment.”

Moffitt earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Cedarville University in Ohio. With a passion for education, she decided to further her knowledge in the field and pursued her master’s degree in nursing from Baylor University in Texas to learn more about how she can treat her patients in different ways. Over the years, Moffitt has gained experience working at a federal correctional institution, urgent care clinics, outpatient clinics and a university.

Moffitt and her husband have three children. When she’s not tending to her patients, Moffitt enjoys trail running, hiking and reading.

Moffitt is practicing at CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Gastroenterology in Lexington, located at 1401 Harrodsburg Road in Suite C 305. To schedule an appointment, call 859.278.8400.
