30th Annual Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Evening with the STARS Gala Honors Physicians and Community Volunteers - Archived

Lexington, Ky. (November 19, 2018) – The 30th annual Evening with the STARS Gala raised nearly $140,000 for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation to benefit the Emergency Department at Saint Joseph Hospital.

More than 500 people attended the event on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Three awards were given to some of the area’s most innovative and caring health care professionals and community leaders. This year’s award recipients are:

  • John Harris, MD - Physician of the Year, Saint Joseph Hospital
  • Kathleen Martin, MD - Physician of the Year, Saint Joseph East
  • The founders of the STARS Gala - Community Volunteer of the Year
    • Those recognized were Helen Hamilton, Jean Jacobs, Barbara Grossman, Genie Whayne, Phyllis Cronin, the late Pam Gee and the late Carol Eastland. 

Over the years, the Evening with the STARS Gala has raised more than $1.5 million for mission and outreach services at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and the Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center.

“Each year, money raised at this gala helps fund facility projects including patient financial assistance, nursing scholarships, breast health, education and more,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, president, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. “We are grateful for the support of our community and those who have made this annual event such a success over the years. The donations are truly leaving a lasting impact on our facilities, staff and patients.”

Also recognized was Karen Hillenmeyer, recipient of the 2018 Practitioner of the Year award from the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants.
