When a patient is ready to leave the hospital, CHI Saint Joseph Health offers a bedside medication delivery service. Pharmacy supervisor Jason Hamrick explains the Meds to Beds Program.

Jason Hamrick, PharmD, Pharmacy Supervisor at Saint Joseph Hospital

We will actually bring their medications to the bedside so that they don't have to worry about stopping at a pharmacy on their way home or anything like that. But it's a lot more than that, too, because we actually make sure that the medications are affordable, they're getting everything that they're supposed to get when they leave the hospital.

It serves to reduce overall readmission rates, because we actually have statistics that show about half the time when patients are discharged from the hospital, they just never go pick up those medications and that results in them, unfortunately, having to come back.

We care about our patients. We want to get them better and we want to send them out in the community, but we don't just care about sending them out in the community. We want them to have a great life after they get out there month after month and feel better.
