CHI Saint Joseph Health offers robotic surgery in cases of emergency illness or traumatic accidents. Dr. Darly Nisbett explains.

Daryl Nisbett, MD with CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group - Surgery

Typically, I will see patients for emergency appendectomies and intestinal perforations. If not treated quickly, they can quickly develop a sepsis and that increases their risk of death.

I think what sets us apart is the fact that we have access to the robot at all times, whether it's nights or weekends. Regardless of when the patient shows up, whether it's on the weekends, I'm able to use that technology to give them a better operation.

You always want the best outcomes, and so the more precision you can perform the surgery, the better. The advantage of robotics is that they should have a shorter stay in the hospital and a quicker return to their daily activities.
