“I get that ‘this is why I do what I do’ feeling every day,” Marilyn said. “When I talk to a patient and they need their records and love that I can help them get their information quickly, that’s what I love. I get satisfaction from helping the person on the other end and completing the task at hand.”
Surprised by the recognition, which included a celebration video featuring Marilyn’s family and colleagues, she said she started to cry when she heard all of the kind words.
“Everyone was there surrounding me when I found out,” Marilyn said. “I’m such a crybaby, but it was so nice and it really surprised me.”
Marilyn has been with CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group for two years and has nearly 20 years experience with medical records. She found her passion for helping others when she was young.
“I wanted to be a nurse, but didn’t go back to school,” Marilyn said. “I love being a caregiver, especially for kids and elderly. The love sprouted from my mom; I took care of her for the last years of her life. I feel like no elderly person should be left alone – someone should always take care of them.”
Marilyn’s caregiver spirit inspired her two daughters, who followed their mom into caregiver roles in their lives. Marilyn said one works in the operating room at a local hospital and the other is a social worker at a local middle school.
Marilyn is also inspired by her faith and her family, whom she enjoys spending time with outside of work. She enjoys her time with her grandchildren, going to basketball games and watching them grow and learn.
