Prayer Service and Burial for Life Lost Through Miscarriage

Losing a baby, even early in one's pregnancy, is difficult and involves a grief journey. That journey is very individual.

Each new life, no matter how brief, forever changes the world.

In keeping with our mission as a Catholic hospital to respect the dignity of every human life, we would like to share with you information about our burial of miscarried infants.

CHI Saint Joseph Health has offered burial of early miscarriages (generally less than 15 weeks) since 2015. This compassionate and collaborative effort with the Catholic Diocese of Lexington at Calvary Cemetery and Saint William Parish in London at Saint Sylvester Cemetery in East Bernstadt is one way we strive to honor the sanctity of all life. The program is provided free of charge.

Know that you are not required to attend the service if you choose our burial, and you are always welcome to visit.

All life has inestimable value

"All life has inestimable value, even the weakest and most vulnerable ... are masterpieces of God's creation, made in (God's) own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect." - Pope Francis
