The Women's Hospital Saint Joseph East is a leader in Central Kentucky for our neonatal intensive care services with board-certified neonatologists and nurse practitioners available 24 hours a day to establish a plan of care for your baby.
Our supportive team understands the anxieties parents face when their baby is admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). We provide both the medical and emotional support you need while your infant receives care.

We encourage you to visit as often as possible-to hold, touch, talk and take care of your baby as their condition allows.
The Women's Hospital Saint Joseph East also offers two designated "Care By Parent" rooms for parents who may need additional support to alleviate any worries they may have the night before taking their newborn home.

The Women's Hospital NICU is conveniently located on the second floor, adjacent to the Labor and Delivery operating room suites. Take comfort in knowing your baby is just down the hall and being cared for by a specialized medical and nursing staff.

What is the NICU?
NICU is our 16 bed, Level III neonatal intensive care unit created for newborns that need specialized treatment. Neonatal intensive care units have specialized equipment designed for infants and hospital staff have special training in emergency newborn care.
Who are neonatologists?
Neonatologists are pediatricians/physicians with additional training who specialize in the care of premature/ill infants admitted to the NICU. They will often:
- Diagnose and treat medical conditions in newborns
- Coordinate the medical care and management of premature and critically ill infants
- Provide care to newborns during a complicated delivery
- Treat even the smallest infants with their specialized training
