You may pick to enter any or all of these sessions. Our daily volunteer shifts are:

There are three hospitals and you have the opportunity to select the hospital for which you would like to volunteer:

  • Saint Joseph Jessamine  Bypass in Nicholasville

More than 2 days absent from a session will dismiss you from the entire summer program. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis for reasons such as a family death, bereavement or serious illness.

What can a teen volunteer do at the hospital?

There are several assignments from which to choose.

Read More About Our Volunteer Assignments

As you read the assignment descriptions, please pay special attention to locations of those assignments and the minimum age requirements for each assignment (at the bottom of the assignment page).   Later, we will ask you for your assignment preferences and we make every effort to place you accordingly.

Once you have been given your assignments, you will volunteer every weekday in those assignments for the entire session.

Ok…I found some assignments that are interesting to me, and I think I would like to apply for the Summer Teen program.  Now what?

Fill the application out completely, paying close attention to the instructions at the beginning of each section. We will begin corresponding with you by email providing you with further instructions, updates, etc.

For returning applicants, please click on the “Returning Applicant” link in the left hand column directly under "Summer Teen Program".

Is there an orientation I have to attend?

Yes. As soon as you submit your application, you will receive an email with instructions for completing the online orientation. Please complete the online orientation prior to your interview.

On your first day of volunteering, the department to which you are assigned will orient you to their area.

Is everyone who applies accepted to the program, or is there an interview process?

Space is limited and placements will be made on a first come, first served basis. An interview is required. At the interview we will determine your assignments and finish up some paperwork. Then you will receive your volunteer badge and shirt.

Once you have completed your online orientation, please call to set the date for your interview. Teen Summer Program Interviews will start May 6 and continue until July 15. Just remember, placements are made on a first come, first serve basis. Interviews can be scheduled for Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
