PGY2 Critical Care Residency

Thank you for your interest in our program. The PGY2 Critical Care Residency Program at Saint Joseph Hospital is a one year specialty training curriculum focused in a variety of different critical care practice settings. The residency provides goal-oriented practice environments through a variety of experiences in critical care, surgery, cardiology, infectious disease, and emergency medicine to name a few. A multidisciplinary ICU rounding model is utilized for the majority of rotations where residents refine interdisciplinary teamwork and leadership skills. Relationships with the University of Kentucky and other colleges of pharmacy provide an interactive teaching environment for residents to develop teaching, presentation, and precepting skills as well. Graduates of the PGY2 program will possess the skills necessary to be highly competitive for a variety of career opportunities as well as prepared to obtain specialty board certification.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy

  • Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency

  • Eligible for Kentucky pharmacist licensure

  • PhORCAS submission or material submitted to directly to residency director

  • Completed supplemental residency application

  • Current curriculum vitae

  • Letter of intent

  • Official pharmacy school transcripts

  • Three professional references (2 must be clinical in nature)

Teaching

Residents will be given a variety of teaching opportunities including participation in a certificate of teaching and learning program, weekly clinical conferences, and a regional pharmacy CE conference as well as coordinate and lead pharmacy and nursing in-services. Residents also have the chance to precept pharmacy students from local colleges, teach lab experiences and, based on availability, take part in teaching a didactic lecture as well.

Research/Conferences/Publication

Residents will complete a clinical based research project including IRB submission, data collection & analysis, poster preparation, and manuscript writing. Residents will attend and present their research at the ASHP midyear clinical meeting as well as another regional or national professional conference. In addition to submission of a research manuscript for publication, residents will also be required to submit either a case report or review article for consideration of publication.
