Saint Joseph East Honors Employees with DAISY and BEE Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 11, 2021) – Saint Joseph East has named its DAISY Award and BEE Award winners for the first quarter of 2021. Andrew Hurt, RN, MedSurg, of Lexington, received the DAISY Award for extraordinary patient care. Beverly Thomas, a care assistant/health unit coordinator, of Nicholasville, received the BEE Award for exceptional service.

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Saint Joseph East is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing a nurse with this special honor every quarter. In the first quarter of 2021, Andrew Hurt was nominated for the DAISY Award by a Saint Joseph East patient.

"Andrew is truly the shining example of a nurse,” said the patient. “He was thorough and compassionate, and he always had a smile or kind word for me. He seemed like he loved his job, and I couldn't have made it through my stay without him. He is a five-star nurse!"

Similar to the DAISY Award, the BEE Award is a nationwide program that honors nursing support staff – patient care assistants, housekeepers, respiratory therapists, health unit coordinators, dietary, transporters and various other team members – who go above and beyond in service, care and compassion. The BEE Award celebrates unsung heroes who make an impact outside their daily duties and go above and Beyond Exceptional Expectations (BEE). In the first quarter of 2021, Beverly Thomas, who is known for picking up shifts almost weekly to ensure the best care possible to the hospital’s patients, was nominated for the BEE Award by a colleague, who describes her as an “extremely hard worker.”

“I’m not exaggerating when I say every shift that Beverly works, she provides care worthy of being recognized,” said Thomas’s coworker. “Beverly is one of the hardest working, kindest and most caring people I’ve had the pleasure to work with.”

The DAISY Award winner received a certificate, DAISY Award pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture. The BEE Award winner was honored with a certificate and a BEE Award pin.
