Healthgrades Ranks Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East Among Top 3 in Kentucky for Gastrointestinal and Pulmonary Care

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 23, 2024) – Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East have been recognized among the top 3 in Kentucky for several key specialties, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor. Saint Joseph Hospital is ranked #2 for pulmonary care, while Saint Joseph East ranks #2 for gastrointestinal surgery and #3 for gastrointestinal care.

These rankings reflect Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East’s commitment to providing the best care possible and distinguish the organization as one of Kentucky’s leading hospitals for specialty care.

“Our dedicated team works tirelessly to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care, and we are honored to have this high ranking from Healthgrades,” said Anthony Houston, Ed.D., FACHE, market president, CHI Saint Joseph Health. “This recognition is a testament to our dedication to excellence and the well-being of our community."

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on what matters most – patient outcomes – to determine the top-performing hospitals for specialty care in each of the 32 states assessed. Healthgrades’ 2024 analysis revealed that patients who seek care at a hospital with rankings in their condition or procedure have a better chance of a good outcome than if they were treated at a facility that is not among the top 3 in Kentucky. This widening performance gap highlights the importance of selecting a top-rated program.

“Healthgrades is proud to recognize Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East among the top 3 in Kentucky for pulmonary and gastrointestinal care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Hospitals with a #3 ranking in their state deliver consistently superior outcomes for the patients in their community. Consumers should feel confident knowing that they have access to top-ranked care for pulmonary and gastrointestinal conditions at these two facilities.”
