Dr. Chioma Chinelo Nwagbara Joins CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group in London

LONDON, Ky. (August 19, 2021) – Chioma Chinelo Nwagbara, MD, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiology in London specializing in percutaneous coronary intervention. Growing up, Dr. Nwagbara witnessed her father’s passion for the medical field. As a physician himself, his joy for his work inspired Dr. Nwagbara to pursue her own dream of becoming a doctor.

“Watching my dad take care of his patients was so rewarding,” said Dr. Nwagbara. “The compassion he cultivated within his work sparked my interest in medicine – his work helped me to create my own philosophy of care, which is to treat people that way you want to be treated.”

Dr. Nwagbara received her master’s in public health with an emphasis in biostatistics at the University of North Texas. She received her medical education at the University of Nigeria Enugu campus. During her medical education, Dr. Nwagbara was recognized as being one of the most successful graduating students in the class of 2009 from the University of Nigeria Enugu. Dr. Nwagbara also received the recognition of being a Biostatistics and Evaluation Services Training scholar from the University of North Texas Health.

Professionally, Dr. Nwagbara has performed research for the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of North Texas. Dr. Nwagbara has also worked as a physician for the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria.

“During my medical residency, I had the chance to experience what’s called a catheterization laboratory,” said Dr. Nwagbara. “Essentially, this an examination room where doctors find potential artery abnormalities. I was intrigued with how a visit to this lab could change the trajectory of a patient’s illness and treatment. This began my interest is cardiology intervention.”

During treatment, Dr. Nwagbara helps champion her patients to make decisions around their own health while working to help improve the existence of any medical abnormalities as it relates to the heart. “I want them to know that their body and their health care goals matter,” said Dr. Nwagbara.

While interviewing with the Saint Joseph London team, Dr. Nwagbara noted that the staff and hospital leaders ultimately influenced her employment decision. “I felt really encouraged and supported during the interview,” said Dr. Nwagbara, who has been with the team since the beginning of July.

Dr. Nwagbara is accepting new patients and will practice at 1025 Saint Joseph Lane in London. To make an appointment with Dr. Nwagbara, visit www.chisaintjosephhealth.org or call 606.864.4040.
