BEREA, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2020) – The Saint Joseph Berea Foundation, on behalf of Saint Joseph Berea, has received a $13,000 grant from WHAS Crusade for Children that will be used to help improve the facility’s pediatric rehabilitation therapy program. The program provides comprehensive and specialized programming for children with disabilities and disorders in the Berea area.

“So many children are affected by processing and speech disorders, as well as injuries, and need Saint Joseph Berea’s assistance in their journey to become independent,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, president, Saint Joseph Berea Foundation. “This grant will allow us to help approximately 300 pediatric patients a year in our community, thanks to WHAS Crusade for Children.”

With the $13,000 grant, Saint Joseph Berea will purchase strength building and vestibular support equipment to provide specialized treatment, in addition to items ensuring sensory building and patient safety. This comprehensive set of resources and treatment options will help the facility improve its ability to develop evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each child’s needs and challenges. The grant will also help fund the purchase of a vein finder for the emergency department to ensure pediatric patients receive IVs or blood draws as quickly as possible.

“We are proud to help this wonderful program at Saint Joseph Berea, which will go on to benefit so many children,” said Dawn Lee, President and CEO, WHAS Crusade for Children. “Our mission is to help make life better for children with special needs in Kentucky and Indiana, and through donations, we’ve been able to help millions of children since 1954. We are glad to give back to the Berea community.”
