LONDON, Ky. (Aug.17, 2020) – Saint Joseph London is celebrating 10 years at its current location at 1001 Saint Joseph Lane. Although the $152 million regional hospital opened at its current location in 2010, the 150-bed hospital was founded in 1926 after the business community and doctors recognized the need for a hospital in the community and established Pennington General Hospital.

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth purchased the hospital in 1946 and changed its name to Marymount Hospital. Marymount Hospital became Marymount Medical Center in 1992 and became part of Catholic Health Initiatives in September, 1997.

“We’re proud of our long history serving London and the counties in this region,” said John Yanes, president, Saint Joseph London. “We are taking this month to celebrate our time and service from this beautiful facility that expands its healing environment beyond the hospital walls and into the 52 acres surrounding the facility.”

Events this month include a scavenger hunt and a celebratory lunch for staff, with plans to bury a time capsule to share the story of this first decade of service in the new facility for future revelation.

The hospital has grown in the past 10 years, with the expansion of services and technology, and recognitions for many parts of it.

In the past year alone, Saint Joseph London expanded the Progressive Care Unit and began offering 3D mammography. A new wound care center was recognized as a Healogics® Center of Distinction, which is a national recognition for clinical excellence given by the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Kentucky has selected Saint Joseph London as a Blue Distinction® Center for Knee and Hip Replacement, part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.

Also this year, Saint Joseph London was selected among the Best Places to Work in Kentucky. Looking forward, a new medical office building is slated to open next month on the hospital’s campus to improve access to health care for the community.
