Flaget Memorial Hospital Honors Employees With Daisy and Rose Awards, Winter 2019

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2020) – Flaget Memorial Hospital, part of CHI Saint Joseph Health, has named its Daisy Award and Rose Award winners for the fourth quarter of 2019. Jennifer Keating, RN, nurse, Float Pool, of New Haven, received the Daisy Award, and Sara Downs, certified nursing assistant, Skilled Nursing Unit, of Bardstown, received the Rose Award.

The Daisy Award is a nationwide program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Flaget Memorial Hospital is proud to be a Daisy Award Partner, recognizing a nurse with this special honor every quarter. This quarter, Jennifer Keating was nominated for the Daisy Award by Flaget Memorial Hospital patients and their families.

“My father was having difficulty staying awake and doing rehab,” said one patient. “I asked Jennifer to check his blood pressure, sensing that something wasn’t right. She immediately sprang into action, checked his blood pressure, and began administering IV fluids and antibiotics. Her quick action possibly saved his life, and for that, I’ll be forever grateful.”

Another patient nomination noted that Jennifer arrived each day with a smile on her face, which helped keep the patient positive during difficult times. The nominator also referred to the entire Flaget nursing staff as “top-notch professionals,” who always “took the time to explain to the family what was going on.”

Similar to the Daisy Award, the Rose Award is a program that honors Flaget Memorial Hospital’s non-nursing personnel. The Rose Award, short for Recognition of Service Excellence, celebrates unsung heroes who work tirelessly to provide the best possible service. This quarter, Sara Downs was nominated for the Rose Award by Flaget patients and their families.
“Sara always has a wonderful attitude and a joyful disposition, which has a profound impact on you when you’re not feeling well,” one patient said. “She is a great team player and always offered to provide me with assistance, no matter the task. Sara is a true asset to the Skilled Nursing Unit at Flaget Memorial Hospital.”

Another nominator referenced Downs’ willingness to serve all patients with the highest level of compassionate care, and how she was always there to go the extra mile to make sure the patient had a comfortable stay.

The Daisy Award winner received a certificate, Daisy Award pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture. The Rose Award winner was honored with a certificate, Rose Award pin and a bouquet of roses to display in her department.
