Saint Joseph Berea Hosts 2019 Go Red for Women Heart Health Awareness Luncheon - Archived

Berea, Ky. (February 11, 2019) — As part of the national effort to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease in women, Saint Joseph Berea is partnering with the American Heart Association to host a Go Red for Women Lunch & Learn event.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, at Churchill Weavers, located at 100 Churchill Drive. Free screenings will be offered from 10:30-11:45 a.m. for blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, oxygen saturation and peripheral vascular disease. Lunch and a presentation will be held from noon-1 p.m.

The free event will feature Donny Hardy, MD, CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care, who will discuss the signs, symptoms and prevention of heart attacks in women.

February is American Heart Month, a time to help spread awareness about how to prevent heart disease and to encourage people to live heart-healthy lives. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of women, and a staggering 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease or stroke. Statistics show that 80 percent of heart disease and stroke events in women may be prevented by lifestyle changes and education.
